Europeana Foundation is an independently governed organisation with a mission to ‘transform the world with culture’. This service is governed by the European Commission and the Member States and funded under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), of the European Union.
Governing Europeana Foundation and Europeana Network Association (ENA), the Board includes experts and representatives who are: appointed by founding members (two years, two members), represent the ENA (two years, six members), from expert fields (two years, eight members) and from Member States (1.5 years, three members).
The Board is responsible for setting the strategy and policy pf Europeana Foundation and legally and financially responsible for its activities. Board participation is voluntary and unpaid.
All issues are put to a vote. The board appoints the Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer from amongst its members by majority vote. Board meetings are attended by observers who provide insight but do not have voting rights.
